Watch Strap Size Chart and Measuring Instructions

Step 1: Measure Lug Width

  • Using a ruler or caliper, measure the width of the space between the lugs of your watch where the strap will attach. This measurement will determine the lug width.

Step 2: Measure Wrist Size

  • Wrap a flexible measuring tape or string snugly around your wrist, just below the wrist bone.
  • Note the measurement in inches or centimeters.

Step 3: Determine Strap Length

  • Measure the distance between the lug ends of your watch to determine the ideal strap length. This measurement should correspond to your wrist size and desired fit.
  • For a comfortable fit, add 1,5 to 2 inches (3.5 to 5 centimeters) to your wrist size measurement.

Step 4: Consult the Size Chart

Tapered sizes:

Tapered size refers to a gradual reduction in watch strap width from one end to the other. In the context of watch straps, a tapered design typically features a wider width near the lug attachment point of the watch and gradually narrows towards the buckle or clasp end. This tapered shape not only enhances the aesthetic appeal of the strap but also offers a comfortable fit, ensuring it conforms smoothly to the wrist. Tapered straps are often favored for their stylish look and ergonomic design, providing a sleek and refined appearance when paired with various timepieces.

Please Note:

The wrist size mentioned refers to the circumference of your wrist at the location where you typically wear your watch.

The length guide provided is approximate and applies to the straps depicted in the images. Variations in fit may arise due to variances in wrist shapes, buckle or clasp types, and differences in watch case sizes or shapes, which cannot be entirely accounted for.

Additionally, individual differences in hand size and structure may further influence fit.

This watch strap is crafted from original vintage Swiss army ammunition pouches, dating back to the 1930s–1980s. These pouches were originally designed for extreme field conditions — mud, snow, rain, heat, and prolonged outdoor use — with a single purpose: to reliably protect ammunition in military service. As a result, the leather is exceptionally dense, resilient, and wear-resistant.

The material carries the marks of real service history. This is not decorative “vintage-style” leather — it is original military leather that may have accompanied soldiers during the Second World War or the Cold War era. Today, such material is extremely rare and no longer manufactured, which makes each strap part of a finite and non-repeatable series.
For a deeper look into the origin and nature of this material, you can explore our detailed article:

Many of the pouches feature authentic military stamps indicating the year of production. When available, these stamps may be preserved on the strap, adding an unmistakable historical character. If you prefer a cleaner look without visible markings, the strap can be cut from an unstamped section of the material — simply note this in the comments when ordering.

The leather has aged naturally for decades, resulting in a wide spectrum of tones and surface character. Shades range from light, slightly orange-tinted brown to deep, dark brown with pronounced patina. Each strap shows unique grain patterns, creases, and surface marks formed through years of real-world use and storage. No two straps are identical.

Thickness is approximately 3.5–4 mm, providing a solid, robust feel without sacrificing flexibility. Despite its age, the leather remains surprisingly supple while retaining the strength expected from equipment intended for harsh military environments. This balance of density and longevity is one of the key reasons why original ammo pouch leather is so highly valued among watch collectors today.

The Secret of Durability: Why Military Ammo Pouch Leather Is Highly Valued Among Watch Collectors

The construction is intentionally minimal: a single piece of vintage leather paired with your choice of buckle, allowing the material itself — its density, scars, and history — to remain the focal point. Cutting, shaping, punching, stitching, and finishing are done manually to preserve the integrity of the vintage leather. This is not a reproduction or imitation — it is original military material repurposed into a functional object meant to be worn and used, not archived.

Full customization is available. Each strap is made to order and can be tailored to your specific watch and preferences, including strap width, length, tapering, stitching style, edge finish, buckle type, keeper configuration, and other details. Custom sizing and individual requests are welcome — simply specify your requirements when placing the order or contact us directly.

This strap pairs especially well with pilot watches, military-inspired timepieces, vintage chronographs, and tool watches. It complements watches with a strong utilitarian or historical identity and is designed for long-term ownership rather than short-term trends.
