Watch Strap Size Chart and Measuring Instructions
Step 1: Measure Lug Width
- Using a ruler or caliper, measure the width of the space between the lugs of your watch where the strap will attach. This measurement will determine the lug width.
Step 2: Measure Wrist Size
- Wrap a flexible measuring tape or string snugly around your wrist, just below the wrist bone.
- Note the measurement in inches or centimeters.
Step 3: Determine Strap Length
- Measure the distance between the lug ends of your watch to determine the ideal strap length. This measurement should correspond to your wrist size and desired fit.
- For a comfortable fit, add 1,5 to 2 inches (3.5 to 5 centimeters) to your wrist size measurement.

This watch strap is made from Nordic reindeer leather, sourced and tanned in Finland. The reindeer lived freely above the Arctic Circle, where temperatures can drop to –40°C. Nature shaped this leather for survival in extreme conditions — we refined it into a wearable, elegant object.
Reindeer leather has been used for centuries by the Sámi people, for whom the reindeer is central to life, culture, and survival. Traditional Sámi clothing (Gákti) and footwear were made from reindeer leather because it is warm, wind-resistant, lightweight, and exceptionally durable. This strap continues that heritage in a contemporary form.

The leather is vegetable-tanned, using extracts derived from tree bark such as willow and birch — a process rooted in Sámi traditions (sisna), where bark tanning produced dark, resilient hides suitable for harsh northern climates. Modern tanning methods at Ahlskog tannery preserve this durability while allowing for a cleaner finish and a broader natural color range. The result is a material that smells of forest and wood, not chemicals.
On the wrist, reindeer leather feels noticeably different from conventional leathers. It is phenomenally light, thinner and more elastic than calfskin, yet highly resistant to tearing. The strap almost disappears on the wrist, making it ideal for those who prefer comfort over weight.
The surface has a distinctive “silk touch” texture — smooth, sometimes slightly velvety depending on the finish — delivering a premium tactile experience from the first wear. There is virtually no break-in period. Comfort is immediate.
Reindeer live in semi-wild conditions across forests and tundra. As a result, the leather may show subtle marks of life: tiny scars, natural grain variations, or texture changes caused by branches or insects. These are not flaws, but proof of authenticity. Each strap carries a unique natural pattern.
Despite its softness, the leather performs well in daily use. With proper vegetable tanning and Ahlskog’s finishing process, it offers good resistance to moisture and sweat, making it suitable for everyday wear rather than occasional use. Thickness is approximately 2.0–2.2 mm, keeping the profile slim, balanced, and elegant.
